In 1946, Portugal celebrated the 300th anniversary of its consecration to the Immaculate Conception. In order to manifest their great love for Our Lady of Fatima, the people wished to do so with pomp and grandeur.

A large procession was organized with the image of Our Lady, which began at the Cova de Iria and ended at the Church of Our Lady of Fatima in Lisbon, 70 kilometers away. The men carried the statue on a platform all the way on foot, changing the “guard” in each town along the way.
